[Full-time] Associate Pipeline Welding Specialist at El Paso Corportation

El Paso Corporation owns and operates North America’s largest natural gas pipeline system. We are currently looking to add an experienced, qualified and skilled Associate Pipeline Welding Specialist to our Central Maintenance Division.

Qualified candidates must possess knowledge, skills and job related experience in order to perform tasks and assignments associated with pipeline design, construction, operations and maintenance of natural gas pipelines. This position requires the individual to follow all safety policies so that the tasks and assignments are completed in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, with an emphasis on finishing each day incident and injury free. Daily responsibilities include performing pipe fabrication welds, welding fittings on loaded lines, tie-in welds under a “ hot work permit ” , and hot taps on steel pipelines that range in various sizes up to 42 ” in diameter.

Incumbent is required to complete pipeline operations and maintenance tasks and projects in support of plant, pipeline, corrosion, measurement, controls, and engineering projects. Incumbent will be required to pass El Paso Corporation ’ s welding qualification tests according to API 1104 utilizing Group I, II and III electrodes.

The Associate Pipeline Welding Specialist will report to a Crew Leader to ensure consistency in maintenance practices. Other responsibilities include performing administrative tasks such as: personal timesheets, expense accounts, DOT Logbooks and maintaining CDL regulations, and maintaining a Company vehicle. The position requires acting as a Company representative when interacting with contractors and vendors. Incumbent may also be required to work as a welder ’ s helper and as an Associate Pipeline Maintenance Specialist and the ability to operate heavy equipment is a plus. A typical work schedule is Monday through Thursday, ten hours per day.

This position requires a significant amount of overnight travel to support operation areas throughout the company, working other than normal hours, overtime, schedule changes, the ability to respond to call-outs, and work in adverse weather and extreme temperature conditions.

Qualifications
Must possess knowledge, skills and job related experience or have completed an associate welding degree acquired through a technical school
Live or relocate permanent residence to within 60 miles of El Paso Corporation ’s compressor station
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to read and interpret various company policies and procedures, Operations & Maintenance (O & M) Manual and blueprints
Valid Driver’s license and good driving record is required. Ability to obtain a CDL within 90 days of hire
Ability to respond in a timely manner to any emergency or after-hours calls
Basic PC computer skills and trainable to custom software applications
Good communication skills — must be able to interface effectively with many internal and external customers, land owners, regulatory officials, company contacts and co-workers
Manual dexterity with physical ability to work in situations which require bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching and lifting/carrying up to fifty (50) pounds. May be exposed to working in harsh weather

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist Consultants and Contractors on Generator set specifications and technical issues.
• To carry out quality control checks as defined on quality plans as directed by construction superintendent and also ensure that works are carried out to these specifications
• To ensure that works are coordinated in an effective manner so that programmed objectives are achieved.
• Ensure supply of equipment and execution of projects in a cost effective manner.
• Prepare project scope of work for tendering; discuss technical and installation issues with contractor.
• Supervise installation project, and ensure that work progress is on track, and meeting project quality criteria.
• Ensure installation audit is carried out after project completion.
• Effectively coordinate the handover and closeout of projects with the Sales Manager/ Sales Engineers.

EDUCATIONAL / PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A degree in engineering field with a minimum of (3) three years experience gained on Engineering or similar industries.
Length of Contract: The contract is between 24 consecutive Months (2yrs.)

Set-up and perform a variety of welding, (GMAW, GTAW, brazing, etc.) finishing operations and processes on piece parts, subassemblies
and assemblies. Move stock and completed parts to and from workstations, stock racks, and holding areas. May be

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES –

Other duties may be assigned:
Check during assembly for proper weld location and size, proper fit, and operation of sliding or rotating parts. Make repairs
when necessary. Check for weld spatter, burn-thru, and other visible weld defects and remove or repair when necessary. May
require use of oxyacetylene or plasma arc cutting torches or automatic programmable welder. Check completed work per job
instructions and print specifications. Properly set and adjust all welding parameters to maintain quality welds. Also load and
assist in welding wire (spool) changes.
Perform all job set-ups, rework on painted parts, and finished products and must be willing to perform all other operations in the
department. Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance of welding equipment and fixtures.
May be required to record measurements. Clean and change torch tips and nozzles, and clean conducts or lines with solvent as
required. Clean or change helmet lenses as necessary.
Report labor. Move completed parts to designated areas. Move stock to and from workstations, stock racks and holding areas.
May be required to rack and unrack parts. Responsible for schedule adherence, safety, housekeeping, rejects, and productivity
applicable per Standard Operation Procedures (SOP\‘s).
Responsible for both quality and quantity of work: Participate in team activities and problem solving sessions as required.
Communicate problems and/or solutions to appropriate person. Must follow all processes and procedures as written. As needed,
document and/or chart production data to aid in problem identification, quality feedback and production scheduling.
Troubleshoot problems when necessary. Train, instruct, and assist other operators in their duties as required to ensure a quality
product and smooth flow.
Evaluate defective material and tooling, faulty operations, questionable conditions and potential work stoppages; advise and
recommend alternatives to appropriate person. (May require the use of computer and telecommunication device.) Ensure that
work area and equipment are maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. Follow prescribed safety regulations.
